MetLife Dental Insurance
MetLife dental insurance provides an affordable way to cut dental costs while protecting against unexpected
major expenses. MetLife’s group dental plans allow employers to provide a major benefit to their employees at a
reasonable cost. The Preferred Dentist Program is available in all states, while the Dental HMO is currently
available only in California, Florida, and Texas; each of these plans offer access to outstanding dental services
at a reduced cost and, for in-network services, paperwork is reduced or eliminated in most cases.
Over 120,000 dentists participate in the Preferred Dentist Program offered by MetLife dental insurance; this allows
members an exceptional level of choice in their dental care provider. Additionally, patients who already have a
preferred dental care provider can continue to see their own dentist; out-of-network services are covered at a
reduced rate, but benefits are still available regardless of which dentist is chosen. Because MetLife has
negotiated fees with dentists in their network, fees are typically 10% to 35% less than comparable services
provided by out-of-network dentists; this applies even for patients who have already met their annual maximum
benefit level. Dental specialists like oral surgeons also participate in the network, so these costs will be
reduced as well for plan members. MetLife tailors its benefits to meet each individual company’s needs, so
deductibles and yearly maximums vary from plan to plan.
For those living in California, Florida, and Texas, the Dental HMO plan offers an enhanced level of benefits for
patients who select in-network providers through MetLife dental insurance. Copayments apply to some services, but
there is no annual deductible and no annual maximum for this plan. Members select a primary care dentist who will
provide most of their dental care needs; specialists are available as well for more complex or difficult
procedures. Because employers elect the level of coverage they wish to provide for their employees, copayments may
vary from plan to plan. MetLife offers tailor-made solutions for employers who want to provide their employees with
this valuable benefit; by taking advantage of the services MetLife offers, employees can enjoy better dental health
at a lower out-of-pocket cost regardless of the plan selected.
