MetLife Dental Insurance Benefits
MetLife offers employer-sponsored dental insurance plans that can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and offer
valuable benefits to members. MetLife dental insurance benefits are administered through either the Preferred
Provider Organization (PPO) or Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plans; each offers a differing range of
benefits. MetLife currently boasts over 21 million dental plan members who participate in either the HMO or PPO
option; MetLife’s dental provider network includes more than 120,000 dental care providers throughout the United
States. All dentists in the MetLife network are screened to ensure they provide the highest quality services for
MetLife’s members.
Under the HMO plan, MetLife dental insurance benefits are designed to pay higher benefits to patients who stay
in-network for their dental care. Referrals are necessary for patients whose dental needs require a consultation
with a specialist, and a primary care dentist selection is required in order to optimize patient benefits. MetLife
HMO plans are currently only available in limited areas, and generally cover 100% of the cost of basic services
including cleanings, oral examinations and routine x-rays, while fillings, periodontal work, bridges, implants,
crowns, and oral surgery are typically covered at a lower rate for most patients. Orthodontia coverage is available
in some areas, typically at an additional cost for sponsoring employer or plan member.
Employees enrolled in the Preferred Dentist Program enjoy a wide range of MetLife dental insurance benefits through
this exclusive PPO insurance plan. First, MetLife negotiates fees for its members that are usually 10% to 35% lower
than average. In-network services are provided at a significant discount through this plan, even after the annual
maximum benefit has already been paid for the year. Additionally, out-of-network services are covered at a reduced
rate, allowing members the luxury of choosing the dentist they most prefer for their dental care. For in-network
services, dental care providers have agreed to handle the paperwork for MetLife members, reducing stress and
allowing a more streamlined experience in the dental office. Both plans come with MetLife’s outstanding reputation
for customer service, ensuring that every member gets the most out of their dental insurance plan.
