Dental Plans
Dental plans allow individuals to receive dental health services from participating dentists. Plan benefits
include dental services such as diagnostic and preventive services, restorative services, endodontic services, and
oral surgical services.
Waiting periods may apply, and plans may have limitations such as the number of cleanings that will be covered
in a 12-month period.
Restrictions placed on dental health services usually depend on whether the individual purchases dental
insurance or a discount dental plan. Dental insurance typically has certain restrictions to which individuals and
families must adhere while discount dental plans have few or no restrictions.
Out-of-pocket expenses paid by an individual will also be determined by the type of plan purchased. Dental
insurance covers a percentage of the cost, and discount dental plans simply provide the member with a discounted
rate for dental services.
