DWI Classes
Individuals that are arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) may face criminal charges, civil lawsuits, and
administrative penalties. Being charged with DWI can seriously, adversely impact the life of the individual charged
with this type of offense. Driving while intoxicated is viewed by the courts and the general public as reckless and
irresponsible behavior. Individuals may be confronted with the possibility of termination from their job and
difficulty securing future employment. Individuals charged with DWI should be prepared to take steps to show the
courts, employers, and the public that they feel remorse for their actions and that they are taking the steps
necessary to rehabilitate themselves.
Individuals charged with DWI often have to take these classes in order to have their driver's license reinstated or
to receive a suspended license. The topics in these classes include things such as: the state laws regarding DWI,
how alcohol and drugs affect the human body, dependency, effects of drugs and alcohol on driving skills, and the
effects of DWI on a person's personal life and employment. Students will be presented with information on each of
these topics which they will be expected to read. Students will be required to answer review questions in regard to
the material and pass a final quiz on the topic.
Some DWI classes are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but this may not be true for all classes in every
state. Typically, individuals have 30 days to complete these classes, and individuals may complete the classes in
one sitting or in multiple sittings. Classes may range from 8 hours to 78 hours, and courses may be taken in a
traditional classroom setting or online. Classes differ by state, and if individuals need help obtaining
information about these types of classes they can contact a local criminal defense attorney. An attorney will be
familiar with these classes and can help individuals ensure they are enrolled in courses that will meet their
needs.
