AARP Dental Plans

With the help of Delta Dental Insurance Company, AARP has designed a dental insurance package available exclusively to active AARP members and their eligible family members. The AARP dental insurance plan is a PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) that allows members to visit any of the 67,000 participating dentists in various locations across the country. AARP and Delta Dental have negotiated with these dentists to obtain reduced rates on dental services for AARP members. AARP dental plans have two options: Plan A and Plan B. Things such as deductibles, maximum benefits, percentages paid, and additional benefits do vary between the plans.

The cost to enroll in one of the two types of AARP dental plans will be based on the number of individuals to be covered by the plan as well as the payment schedule selected by the individual. Rates are based on single, two-person, or family A and B plans, and plan payments can be scheduled on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual basis.. Family members that are eligible for plan coverage include: spouse, dependent children under age 26 (including unmarried grandchildren, newborn dependent children, stepchildren, adopted children, foster children,), and unmarried dependent children that are unable to support themselves.

In the first year of coverage, AARP dental plans cover services such as: diagnostic and preventive services, cleaning, denture repair, fillings, oral surgery, and root canals. After 12 months of coverage, AARP members will be eligible for insurance coverage for services such as: periodontics, crown and cast restorations, dentures, and temporomandibular joint dysfunction treatment. For those individuals that choose annual rate payments, additional benefits for dental accidents will become available. AARP members can choose to use a dentist that is out-of-network for their dental health needs, but in doing so members will be expected to pay for the cost of services rendered and submit a claim for reimbursement.
